Who's to blame?

"IT was not quite the perfect storm that some people had predicted but the Sarawak election is a signal that the political landscape in the state has shifted in a way that its leaders had not foreseen."

This was taken from www.thestar.com.my.

So, the landscape had shifted but the leaders did not foresee it! Why? Actually the reason is really quite simple. They were plagued my a national media that kept lying to them. A media that lied and told them that the support was intact.

If I were them, I would take the media to task for not reporting the actual sentiment and warning me. But then again, I'm not them.

Communications

I'm sitting here right now waiting for my number to called at the DiGi Centre at Berjaya Times Square, entertaining myself with my iPhone while keeping in touch with my mum and a couple of friends on my BlackBerry.

It's amazing how times have changed. Modem telecommunications has completely changed the way we do things. As for me, playing with new gadgets is one if the things I enjoy most in life.

Do you remember having to make an appointment with a friend in the "olden days"? You'd have to set the exact time and location. Sometimes, after it is only after a missed appointment that you realise that you were both waiting at opposite entrances to the same building. This never happens today! If you're stuck in a jam and will be delayed? You just make a call or send an SMS so that the other party can go have a cup of coffee or browse some stores while waiting for you.

Today, thanks to my BlackBerry and iPhone, I'm never bored. Take this very minute for example, I'm actually making a blog entry while waiting for my number to be called.

How times have changed indeed!

Time to write again.

Time flies when you are busy changing major things in your life! Feng Shui predicted big changes and difficulties this year and it has proven to be all too true.

For starters, I moved back to the nation's capital, started a new job and began enjoying life in a way I had not in the past four years.

I have come to realise that the thing I enjoy most these days is making a difference in the life of others. Why? I'm not too sure. But actually contributing to another person's happiness gives me a sense of fulfilment.

These days, I would much more enjoy teaching someone to do something instead of just taking the easy way out and doing it myself. Its a sence of satisfaction seeing another person succeed.

Brunei Revisited

It seems like only yesterday that I was here in Brunei for the very first time. That was in 1985. How time flies! I was just a kid back then.

My next trip was here for work. I was with a card company and I stayed at the Brunei Hotel. I signed them up as a merchant and also signed an affinity programme.

Ever since that day, I had always stayed here whenever I was here in Brunei. I became good friends with the hotel general manager.

She told me that this would be the last time I stay here under her management as she would be retiring. How time flies. And I guess that this may also be the last time I stay here.

Loosing me...

It always amazes to see the amount of effort and money companies spend in order to acquire new customers. However, these very same companies seem to go out of their way to chase away their existing customers.

I used to be a very loyal customer of one particular airline, let’s call in Horse Air. I always loved the fact that their services were among the best and the food they served had the world talking.

I would book Horse Air to wherever I travelled, even when connections were bad. My loyalty saw me rise up the racks of its frequent flyer programme and I quickly rose to “gold” status. Among the privileges I received included free travel, more luggage, use of its premium lounge and priority boarding whatever class I choose to travel.

After getting my “gold” card, I seemed to enjoy most of its privileges accept for priority boarding. It seemed to me that I was never invited to board the aircraft first. I did not really mind this too much. What I really enjoyed were the “free flights” I could redeem with my frequent flyer miles.

I used to enjoy return flights to my favourite destination for only the price of airport tax. Later however, I was also asked to pay a fuel surcharge. Well, I was not happy but I continued to give them my support. Then all of a sudden, the inflight meals took a turn for the worse, the food served was so little and the taste too had deteriorated to an extend that I would often say to meals on board.

Then came the final straw. The fuel surcharge was increased so much that my so called “free” tickets started to cost more than those sold as “normal” by low cost carriers. What really got to me was the fact that the airline was selling tickets to the public at “0” fare or such low fares that a loyal customer like me, was paying almost the same amount as a person who used their service maybe once in two years!

I saw no point in continuing my loyalty. I started using the services of the low cost carrier and other rival airlines. To my astonishment, I found that these other airlines had in fact, better aircraft, better fares, better food and even used better airports.

So, there you go, that’s how Horse Air lost me…
